Skin Care : dry & sensitive skin (and everyone else)

For years I have had the most sensitive skin.

I struggle with redness, dry skin, and being allergic to literally anything and everything. My skin goes from being extremely clear to pimples popping up everywhere. I struggled to find a skin care routine that wasn’t too harsh and that didn’t dry my skin out. I had found a few along the way but having sensitive skin means that your face care products are most likely going to smell AWFUL.

Along with constantly switching my products up, I was never consistent with having a face routine day and night. As the stress of life, college, and terrible nutrition caught up with me, I decided to take a chance.

I picked up the skin care pack located in the picture above at Ulta Beauty for $34.99. This was a steep price for me to pay for any skin care product in general, but the pack included the face wash, the moisturizer, the serum, and the eye cream. I figured I’d get a bang for my buck. Before I bought the product I asked one of the lovely ladies at Ulta for their honest opinion. She told me that the pack would be my best deal with the amount it cost, but that there was one problem. People returned it due to the SMELL. I immediately was hesitant because of my long history of disgusting smelling skin care, but I decided to give it a try. The best thing was that if I tried it and didn’t like it, I had 60 days to return it. I thought that was pretty awesome for someone who was completely unsure.

I proceeded to the checkout and ending up spending $60 on products I probably didn’t need at all, but ended up finding skin care I loved!

The following pictures are listed in the order of which I would apply the skin care products:

  • face wash
  • serum
  • eye cream
  • mosturizer

Processed with VSCO with m5 presetThe first thing that the Glowing Regimen Trial Set came with was this Philosophy Purity face wash. This was the product I was informed had a “smell”. I was pleasantly surprised that this product didn’t have a smell at all. It just smelled like, well, nothing. Which, for having sensitive skin did not surprise me. I learned throughout this skin care journey that a little goes a long way with this product. A little dab of the face wash got off my entire face makeup and cleansed my face perfectly. I feel so refreshed after I use this product and I still have 3/4 of the bottle after 3 months of washing my face day and night. The face wash isn’t greasy, is totally lightweight and softens my skin.

It was included in the kit and just using a little dot provided me with all the moisture I needed. This product is used to repair your skin for its most natural looking feel. At age 20 I can’t say I have many wrinkles, but it sure did make my skin feel a lot firmer! As a person who has never been big on focusing on skin care I could see myself buying the full price $76.00 bottle.

For a girl that is 20 without wrinkles, I sure as hell do have under-eye circles! Thanks mom. I have struggled with dark circles and bags under my eyes since I can remember. The added stress of school and life in general has certainly contributed to making those worse. After using this cream for the months I had it, I saw a significant improvement in my under eye circles. Whether it be the placebo affect or it actually working the renewed hope in a jar eye cream was a holy grail product for me! The original full price size of this costs $51.00.

I have never been so passionate about a moisturizer in my life and it frightens me how I would do anything for this particular one. I have struggled with dry skin, Eczema, patches, and everything under the sun. The renewed hope in a jar moisturizer literally saved my skin. I used the smallest amount of product and it spread so evenly onto my skin leaving my entire face moisturized. I swear my face has never looked more hydrated or glowing. It contains Asian fruit extracts for improved circulation and re-energized healthy color. It may be an extreme statement, but I think I would die for this moisturizer. The full sized goes for $39.00.

Overall, I had such a great experience with this trial set. Every single product in the set complimented and hydrated my skin. I saw a major improvement when I would consistently perform my skin care routine with these products. In the morning I would use the face wash and moisturizer and at night would throw in the serum and eye cream. Throw in a good night’s sleep and you’re 30 years younger! -10 in my case!

I also love the philosophy line and the packaging. Each package comes with a different philosophy and mantra to start off your morning with. I will definitely be purchasing this set again and can confidently say it was worth every penny.

Healthy Eats

IMG_7018— so, it turns out that once you turn 20 your parents expect you to start making your own food… crazy right ???

Recently, I have been realizing how sluggish and tired I’ve been feeling. I couldn’t quite figure out why this was happening until one day I sat down and thought about the fact that I eat one meal a day. Not to mention that meal is usually something quick, fried, and extremely unhealthy. So I took the initiative and made a list; I was going to get ONLY healthy food and I was going to start to make it myself.

Although fast food is extremely convenient, it makes me feel disgusting and ultimately who has the money for that ?? Certainly not this college student.

–so, I set out to Aldi and picked up the following things:

  • Broccoli florets
  • Baby spinach
  • Flour tortillas
  • Colby jack cheese
  • Asparagus
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Avocado (2)
  • Greek yogurt
  • Chamomile tea ( to help me get to sleep)
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • A mango
  • Honey wheat bread
  • Wheat pita pockets
  • Almond milk
  • Roast beef
  • Sweet potatoes

One tip I have for grocery shopping is to make a list. Everything I bought was on my list I had created the night before. I had seen myself wanting to throw in some randoms here and there but made a promise to myself to only buy the things that I wrote down on paper. Not only did that save me money, it saved me temptation later on. Also, DO NOT GO GROCERY SHOPPING HUNGRY! I cannot stress this enough. Before I set out on my adventure I made sure to eat a full meal (to the point where I could barley button my pants) to make CERTAIN I would not be picking up things that looked good to me at the moment.

In total this adventure cost me $43; A great deal if I do say so myself. I know many of us are drawn to the more expensive stores like Wegmans and Trader Joes, but places like Aldi and even Walmart have the exact same things at a cheaper price. Better yet, Aldi doesn’t use bags so while you’re saving money you’re saving the environment too! But don’t forget your reusable bags or you’ll be taking many trips to the car.

Unfortunately as much as I am hyping Aldi up in this article this is not sponsored! (But hey, if you want to throw a girl a rope 😉 )

I do however want to stress the fact that you are ALLOWED to eat fast food!! I by no means am done eating fast food. It’s the 80 / 20 principle. You truly are what you eat, but I promise if you want a small fry from McDonalds once in a blue moon it will be OK.
